We want American Leadership

“We Want American Leadership, “

said a member of a diplomatic delegation of a major U.S. ally. He said it softly, as if confiding he missed an old friend.

For those looking for political pundits taking sides in what has once again made our country a laughingstock, take heed there will be none.  Most of you who know me, know where I stand, (those that are unsure feel free to contact me directly) we’ll put that aside to keep this post focused on the core issue.  America Leadership… where has it gone and why has it declined so dramatically.

Where is Capitalism?

Is this a sign that capitalism has finally proven that it doesn’t work and we need to reassess our whole paradigm?  Our country was always a benchmark that most other countries had set themselves up to be.  Where has the spirit gone, why do we seem to be a tired nation?  According to Peggy Noonan, many of our allies speak of us in terms of our “dynamism, excellence, exuberance and leadership”.

Many of us have been taught and continue relaying the leadership message; the Fish stinks from the head down.  While Barack Obama is the president, we also have leaders from both parties (think checks and balances) who are our nation’s leaders within the house and senate.

Facebook debates?

The most recent shutdown of government also continues to perplex me and most of the people I speak with.  I love going on Facebook to see who’s rattling whom and quoting laws and public opinion looking for and grasping for any photo or saying which might present their viewpoint as to who is right or wrong.  Not to mention which public landmark was or wasn’t shut down.

We’ve been in this predicament before, and we’ve gotten through it, as I’m sure we will this time.  However, barely getting through something doesn’t give us the American Leadership we so badly want and need.

We can be great again!

For this country to be truly great again, full of pride, “dynamism, excellence, exuberance and leadership”, we need to fully understand where we are as a country, come together as only Americans can, put our viewpoints and differences aside for the betterment of now, and the future of this great country.

Consider this from religious leader Ezra Taft Benson, “Pride is concerned with who is right.  Humility is concerned about what is right.”  Pretty much sums up where our country’s so called leaders are at the moment.

What makes this country great is our ability to bring about change from the grass roots level each and every election that we participate in.  Remember, what do we want in our American Leadership?
